Water in a spinning sphere

HOW

1. Look at the surface of the liquid in the stationary vessel.
2. Gradually increase the speed of the sphere. What happens to the water inside it?
3. Find out what the world looks like when viewed through a thin layer of liquid in a spinning sphere.

WHY

In a rapidly spinning sphere, the liquid moves to its side walls and rises. This is the result of the centrifugal force that occurs in spinning systems.

The value of this force depends on the rotational speed of the vessel. The higher the spinning speed, the greater the centrifugal force and the more the liquid is pushed away from the centre of the sphere. The fluid system in the spinning sphere also acts as a lens. When you look through the elevated liquid, you see an inverted image of objects.
