Curling

HOW

1. Grab the curling stone.
2. Apply speed with a gentle, sweeping motion.
3. Try to push it so that it reaches the point you have set. This could be the centre of the coloured circles, which is called the “house” in curling, or another selected area.

You can invite a second person to play. Use the two curling stones and compete against each other. The person, whose stone is closer to the set point, wins.

WHY

The phenomenon presented is different from that observed during curling on natural ice. This is because our surface is made of a low-friction plastic. In addition, our stones are equipped with metal balls that roll on the surface.

In real curling, the stones slide over a layer of water that forms between them and the natural ice. The team affects the movement of each stone even after it has been released! This is what the players ‘brush’ the ice for. By doing so, the amount of water on its surface is increased, resulting in less friction between the stone and the floor surface.
