Magic cones
Magic cones
HOW
1. Place the two-cone system in the lowest part of the inclined plane.
2. Observe its behaviour.
WHY
The system of cones moves up the inclined plane on its own. This occurs without any driving mechanism!
The reason for this is that movement in this direction lowers the centre of gravity of the entire system. The characteristic design of the inclined plane is responsible for this – the two tracks move away from each other with increasing height. Although the contact points of the system with the plane are increasingly higher, the centre of gravity of the cone system decreases.
